About the sculpture He:
- Design and concept: The figure depicts a young man sitting on a rock, both made of polished steel. Its posture and body language are a gender-specific variation of Edward Eriksen's iconic statue, The Little Mermaid, on Langelinje in Copenhagen. The choice of steel as a material gives the work a modern look in contrast to traditional materials such as granite and bronze and reflects the developments that have taken place since the creation of The Little Mermaid. 'He' connects contemporary perspectives with Elsinore's rich historical cultural heritage and, through its location, bears witness to a city and a municipality in transition.
- Symbolism: The sculpture can be interpreted in many ways, but it often reflects themes such as strength, cohesion, and sustainability. The artwork is also intended as a tribute to Helsingør's maritime and industrial history, in which the shipyard and harbor play a central role.
- Location: The sculpture is located in central Helsingør, close to Kulturværftet and the harbor area, giving it a strong connection to the city's cultural and historical life.
- Interactivity: He invites both visual enjoyment and interaction, as the long arms can be used as ramps where visitors can climb up into the sculpture's hands.
